Summary:
The objective of this study is an international analysis of contemporary interregional migration developments for regions at NUTS II level, and the development and improvement of methods to analyse, explain and project interregional migration trends and patterns.
In order to achieve this objective, six activities have been planned in the tender.
- The review and assessment of recent theories and models explaining and projecting migration behaviour in general and interregional migration trends and patterns for NUTS II regions in particular.
- Inventory and evaluation of interregional migration trends and other relevant data series available at national statistics institutes, Eurostat and other international organisations (e.g. council of Europe)
- Articulation of a general, conceptual model that is able to explain major interregional migration trends and patterns during the 1980s and 1990s for regions at NUTS II level.
- Implementation of those parts of the model that can be quantified and validated with currently available international data series.
- Organisation of a one day workshop (3-5 experts) to discuss the results of the study.
- Recommendations for future data collection and research.
