Quantitative Criminology in the School of Geography

Researchers within the School are members of the Leeds Quantitative Criminology group, and conduct a variety of different types of research into crime. For more information, see the following research themes:

• Environmental Criminology: can we understanding the causes of crime by looking at where it happens?
• Predictive Policing: how do we predict crime using the statistical and geographical properties of past crime?
• Agent Based Modelling: can we resource policing by better understanding the behaviour of offenders?

Current Projects: Assessing and Enabling Predictive Policing: Home Office funded project working with West Yorkshire Police to assess the use of predictive algorithms in practical policing. The spatial analysis of crime patterns in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Project to understand the distribution of crime in Riyadh, concentrating on motor vehicle theft, the largest crime in the city. The Impact of Community Cohesion on Crime: Project to understand the relationship between community cohesion and crime, using traditional data and data from social media.
