The Future of the Tropical Forest Carbon Sink European contribution to the large-scale Biosphere-Atmosphere experiment in Amazonia: Carbon cycle CARBONSINK LBA

School of Geography, University of Leeds

Principal Investigator:

Dr O Phillips

Dates:

1st July 2000 – 30th June 2002

Grant:

EEC

Summary:

The overarching objective of the project is to examine the controls that determine the magnitude and behaviour of the Amazonian tropical forest carbon sink, to provide improved estimates of the current rate of carbon sequestration by forest and savannah, and to predict the likely future behaviour and implications of the tropical carbon sink for global and European carbon management policies.
