You can use SPSS to gain simple frequency data from datasets.
First, select the following menu item...
This will bring up the following dialog box...
This allows you to pick the variables you want to generate frequency statistics for. To pick variables, select them in the left side of the dialog box (example hightlighted red above), and click the arrow button in the middle of the dialog box to shift them into the "Variable(s)" box. You can select several variables at once using the "shift" and "control (Ctrl)" keys. You can shift variables out of the "Variable(s)" box using the reverse procedure.
Pressing the "Statistics..." button will bring up a box which allows you to also generate other simple statistics. To produce a chart of the frequencies, push the "Charts..." button.
When you've made your choices, push the "OK" button. After a short delay the viewer window will appear with the results. If the "Display frequency tables" square is checked, these will be generated. In the absence of this check the only thing generated will be a count of the data.
