Summary: there is an abundance of new data that is being created by people as they participate in their normal daily activities. Sources include mobile telephone transactions, social media contributions, public transport records, etc. These sources hold promise as a means of revealing valuable information about society and, in particular, can be used to inform crime research. In this lecture we will focus on insight that can be gained into individual routine activities through the analysis of Twitter data, and they ways in which this can inform research into crime patterns.
