About the project
Payments
for carbon storage and biodiversity conservation have the potential to
generate significant revenue for tropical forest nations. If properly
managed, such payments for ecosystem services could play a major role
in poverty alleviation and reducing deforestation rates in Amazonia.
Funded by the Ecosystem Services and Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) programme of NERC/ESRC/DfID,
this project brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers
and NGOs, with links throughout Amazonia, to identify the full range of
opportunities and capacity building requirements to access carbon and
biodiversity-based payments for Ecosystem Services in Peruvian
Amazonia.
