eInfrastructure Jennifer Schopf

• There is an £11M JISC eInfrastructure fund with a lifetime of 2 years from now. There is to be a call for applications for funding infrastructure and research projects shortly after after the JCSR meeting in late February. The deadline for proposals will be something like 6 weeks.
• Jennifer gave her definitions of eScience, eInfrastructure and eFrameworks. (Basically these buzz words cover much the same. eInfrastructure and eFramework are in fasion.
• Jennifer overviewed Globus and OMII .

OGSA-DAI Neil Chue Hong

• OGSA-DAI Project Home Page
• OGSA-DAI is part of both Globus and OMII toolkits.
• Neil is working with Chris Higgins to write an OGSA-DAI wrapper to a Web Map Server (WMS) for serving images of Ordnance Survey (OS) map data using the NGS . There are future plans to extend this work so as to serving OS MasterMap data using a non-transaction Web Feature Server (WFS). They should probably be looking to use GeoServer .

Update on actions from last meeting

• Chris Higgins has drafted a letter for the GI Community to ask them for help in pushing Geographic Information (GI) concerns in shaping the UK e-Infrastructure.
• Neil Chue Hong is working with Chris Higgins on writing a OGSA-DAI wrapper to WMS for serving out OS maps via the NGS.
• In future may look at WFS but probably not transactional WFS.

Responsive EPSRC proposal for under £1M

• Framework with some bits that sub-groups flesh out.
• Scoping study to develop expertise on Grid and GIS.
• Application focus on security planning.
• Making fixed processing chains that use OGC and Grid standards.
• Producing a road map for a framework for geographical data mining on Grid Computing resource.
• Google Earth, Microsofts equivallent, Worldwind
• How to buid OGSA-DAI wrappers around GeoServer, GeoTools, uDIG?
• Nottingham (Mike Jackson) will take a lead on this.
• Edinburgh to focus on the OGSA-DAI interface with OGC WMS WFS.
• 500+ word sections to be compiled by 2006-02-20 for circulation. First draft to be compiled by 2006-03-21.

• Put juicy bits of the SPIN proposal on the wiki . Send proposals to Bob Abrahart by any means.
• Ask to put Ian Turton and Humphry Southall's Grid enabling GAM Proposal on the wiki .
• Talk to Mark Birkin and Rob Proctor about the EPSRC bid and the NCeSS ESRC eInfrastructure bid. Letter of endorsement/support for the EPSRC proposal? Collaboration on a JISC eInfrastructure bid?
• Find out who is Leeds Universities OGC representative now Ian Turton has moved on. Offer to be this person.
• Send these notes to Chris.

• Mike Jackson to email template proposal and expressions of interest from members of the group that did not attend this meeting.
• Stuart Ballard to email URL and logon for the wiki .
• Next meeting in March.
