The local authorities and police in South Yorkshire have begun a project to assimilate high resolution areal photography data for the region and make it available to everyone via the Internet. In total the cost of this is around £30K and is self funded with each partner contributing around £5K. The GeoInformation Group are being contracted to perform an areal survey some time in 2006 and provide their existing data of the region. The project has come about due to the efforts of Robin Smith and Rosemary Clarke that are members of the South Yorkshire GIS Group.
Is something similar happening in West Yorkshire and is there potential for a broader collaborative venture for the entire Yorkshire (White Rose) region?
Robin Smith contacted Andy Turner in January 2006 following conversations with Graham Clarke about White Rose Studentships and attending a Future Cities WUN workshop with Martin Clarke.
This is a good opportunity for collaboration, but this needs a lot of work to become a successfully funded research proposal.
