Introduction
Blog
- 2006-12-14
- Closing Plenary
- Catalog WG
- 2006-12-13
- Met Eddie Curtis from Snowflake Software
- Architecture Board Session
- Excellent consideration of mission statement!
- Loose coupling is about having few component requirements whilst having interoperability of components.
- Abstract feature vis Object
- Overlap of WFS and SOS
- etc...
- Architecture WG
- GeoLinking IE
- GLSSpec 06-181
- WFS or WFS simple could be used for serving out spatial and attribute data - these could then be readily joined...
- In OWS-3 there was some XML integration jobby (not documented - Josh Lieberman knows about it) that could take two XML/GML files and integrate them.
- Showed Josh Lieberman SEE-Geo and SAW-GEO draft workplans
- The GMU guys were here yesterday...
- He is interested and would like the workplans uploaded to the wiki as soon as they are out of draft.
- GeoDRM WG 9:00-11:00
- http://prime.esri.com/arcexplorer
- Username and Password noted...
- GeoDRM Roles, Update of RM?
- John Herring
- Adding protection
- A full license for OSMM is about £5M with academic discounts?
- MPEG-21 book might be worth a read...
- Different organisations call Security and GateKeepers different things, but they all have them!
- Excellent UML of Basic License Model.
- Our MoSeS portal needs to pass on a license to protect us and enable users to know what they can do with the derivative works.
- The security is in keys not in encryption/decryption algortithms.
- Open source is more secure as you can check for hidden back doors which you can't with a black box.
- OWS-4 Security can be used for GEESE part 2 and the moves in OWS-5 look good for JISC OGC Grid Collision.
- What about incorporating Grid/eScience Security?
- I get the impression Shibboleth and eScience Proxy Certificate/token can be useful, but is there any software from the Grid community working with XACML or SAML or something that can do the DRM?
- Perhaps the role of Grid Security is in enabling secure encryption and deletion of data so it can be processed in a safe virtual environment on computational resources that reside on systems administered anywhere.

- Recommend Gobe to join GeoSemWeb OGC email list
- Examples of high level ontologies
- Ontology mapping through a hierarchy is key as different communities will have their own ontology for their use and the need is to agree on the type of feature (e.g. a lake is a ground air water interface of an inland fresh water body) by going up and down a hierarch.
- Introduced Ian T to OpenCyc is the open source version of the Cyc technology, the world's largest and most complete general knowledge base and commonsense reasoning engine. OpenCyc can be used as the basis of a wide variety of intelligent applications such as:
- rapid development of an ontology in a vertical area
- email prioritizing, routing, summarization, and annotating
- expert systems
- games
- Recommended Ian contact Gobe. Ian is doing some interestesting ontology work for disaster management.
