International Conference in Digital Curation
2008 Research Methods Festival
Graham described the process
It would be good for
ReDReSS Paul and Nick
were able to record and produce all this.
Agenda Setting Workshops / Special Interest Group (SIG) Meetings
There is still money for this.
Ideas for future workshops
Web 2.0
Suggested by Pete, seconded by Paul.
Simulation
Agent based modelling...
How do people move around...
Secure access to confidential data
Call out for bids to create a secure data laboratory...
Large datasets
Mike Batty talking to Peter Elias on secure access and different types of data.
How do we handle them?
There is no reason why we cannot repeat ASWs as the agenda moves and there is a need to get back together again.
We should make more of SIGs that arise from the ASWs.
The hub will help to facilitate these.
Posters
All nodes are to organise the content for new posters and materials to promote their work.
The ones the hub have are too out of date.
Posters want a title, about 3 pictures and 5 sentences, appropriate references and logos all done in the same style.
To accompany the poster it would be good to have a 1 page handout (may be double sided), which contains more detail.
Social Science incorporates many things:
There is no one professional organisation for UK Social Science?
Some nodes do not really have large professional associations that cover their work.
Jennifer Mason
? cardiff node NCRM
Journal
Open access journal with content that cannot be in print.
Good if it is electronic, openly available and has special issues focussing on particular aspects.
Something like
The Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation
Book
No one particularly keen on a new book
Nigel Fielding
compiling a book on eResearch to which various people in the room have been asked or are offering contributions.
eprints
Publication repositories
What is the difference between putting an artice on your website with an RDF document?
Digital Object Identifiers (DOI)
How do you get these?
Web Site
Launch delayed.
Aim to unviel new site at the Jamboree.
Plans are being made to produce an NCeSS Blog.
Impact measures
Develop half a page text describing the Impact of MoSeS.
Assessing impact is hard. Who knows what it will be until 10 years time?
Communications plan
Judy Redfearn
to draft.
(b) sustainability
Rob Procter / Terry Hewitt
Documentation:
Sustainability Report.
Sustainability presentation slides.
Open source model vs commercial software
Can prepare under sustainability to absorb funds from ESRC and JISC in the run up to the
Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR)
At the Jamboree we should prepare for a large proposal on this to submit to ESRC and JISC post CSR
