- Notes
- There were presentations...
- Rich thinks that digimap web services are available to digimap users:
- We should probably make enquiries about using these for MoSeS.
- GRADE metadata submission can be annnoying if the data is already in files (cut and paste)
- It would be good to know who is downloading the data.
- What references can be used to site and acknowledge the data...
- GRADE is not really an Open Spatial Data Infrastructure (OSDI), it is a useful component of our current National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and is open to the UK Academic Community
- Lunch :)
- Research questions
- Went through what was on my slide
- GeoCollaboration
- Linda
- How do we widen access to public sector data?
- Building public sector regional repositories
- Distributed/grid computing for accessing data across repositories
- Robin
- What is collaboration?
- What policy measures need to be put in place for us to help and be helped?
- Framework 7 Second Call?
- We need international collaborators
- Max Craglia (JRC)
- Steffen Fritz (IASSA)

- gg1dp wanted to share files with me on exaroom. No idea who this was so I refused.
- Some friends wanting to share files with on exaroom no longer have their computers switched on and I seem unable to get the files. AllPeers has the same problem/feature.
- This makes me think even more that for those that roam around using different computers, it might be hard to use exaroom and AllPeers easily... It might be they can get around this with some sharing/drive mapping...
- I don't think that Undergraduate and Masters Students at the University of Leeds are obliged to own a networked Personal Computer. These are provided for PhD students and I think they are required for Open Distance Learning students.
- This also reminds me, we are not forced to pass around licence and metadata using exaroom and AllPeers
- The licence under which Rich distributed data is implied and it would be wrong for him to get into trouble...
- I did think about releasing the data into the public domain, but had second thoughts :)
- GRADE solves the problem of each of us having to be a gatekeeper as it checks users credentials before allowing them to download data.
- This is worth mentioning on Monday.

- Adding to the shapefile being passed around:
- Received a zip file containing a Shapefile from Richard via exaroom.
- Downloaded uDIG1.1RC9 and used it to edit the shapefile adding in a point location for my office.
- Used http://www.nearby.org.uk/ to get location information for LS2 9JT - the postcode of the University of Leeds
- Got annoyed as this took three goes...
- Worked out in the end that edits need to be committed.
- Exported the OWS context and bundeld it all together into a zip file
- Shared the zip file with Linda via AllPeers.
- Sent my powerpoint file to Robin and explained that I would be writing a web page

- Conversation with ICOSSGIS (Robin)
2007-02-14
- Just realised that Exaroom beta was where to go to make invitations etc... I was pointed there by ICOSS who wanted to be my friend.
- Chat with icossgis (Robin) on AllPeers. We couldn't work out how to do multi-way chat.
- Invited Richard Kingston to be an AllPeers friend.
- Invited Richard to be an exaroom friend lord knows how many times as I hit the send invite button, but nothing seemed to happen. Maybe this is why Maurizio invited me multiple times... Not a nice feature!
- Chat with Richard on AllPeers. Rich went offline. I've replied, but don't know if he will ever see that...
- At first rejected bex as an exaroom friend as I wasn't sure the user was a friend.

- The data did not pass validation, here is the error report: Error: No supported formats found
- Tried ESRI Shapefile (in the zip)

- Uploading aroads.zip 3,904,782 bytes 82a3274838dee7ec87f58f0c073f04b8 (MD5) to GRADE geospatial data repository demonstrator
- This has validated as an ESRI shapefile format.
- The bounding box looks right.
